Perfume and Cosmetic Bottle Printing Machines: Choosing Cylindrical or Flatbed for In-House Decoration
Published · PRO TECHnology Digital Printing
For fragrance houses, cosmetic and skincare manufacturers and contract fillers in the UAE deciding to decorate bottles, jars and tubes in-house: which machine suits which container, what has to be tested, and how to start.
Fragrance and cosmetic packaging comes in two kinds of shape, and the shape decides the machine. Round and tapered bottles, jars and tubes are printed all the way round on a cylindrical printer such as LSINC's Peri Series. Flat-fronted, rectangular and faceted bottles are printed face by face on a UV flatbed. PRO TECHnology supplies both: LSINC cylindrical printers as LSINC's exclusive dealer for the Middle East and North Africa, and Direct Color Systems UV flatbeds. This page is about choosing between them and getting a decision you can defend; if you only need bottles printed, Sun Studio, the group's studio in Dubai, offers a perfume bottle printing service.
- Round bottles, jars, tubes
- LSINC PeriOne, PeriQ360 or Perivallo360m, printed 360° in one wrap
- Flat-fronted bottles
- UV flatbed, printed face by face in a jig
- Smallest diameter
- 38 mm on the PeriOne and PeriQ360, 20 mm on the Perivallo360m
- Alcohol
- Rub-tested with your own fragrance on every new bottle, never assumed

Key takeaways
- Container shape decides the machine. Round and tapered perfume bottles, cosmetic jars and tubes go on an LSINC cylindrical printer; flat-fronted and faceted bottles go on a UV flatbed. PRO TECHnology supplies both.
- Diameter is the next filter: 38 to 152 mm on the PeriOne, 38 to 114 mm on the PeriQ360, and down to 20 mm with tapers up to ±30° on the Perivallo360m, which is the route for slim vials, roll-ons and tubes.
- Alcohol is the hard test. PRO TECHnology rates prints made with the right pretreatment or primer, ink set and full cure as alcohol resistant, but every new bottle is rub-tested with the customer's own fragrance before a run.
- Plastics such as PET, PP and HDPE need adhesion testing and usually a primer or surface pretreatment; coated glass is qualified coating by coating.
- Clear glass prints without a physical barrier on the PeriOne and PeriQ360, but white ink is still printed under colour wherever the design must be opaque. Gold is printed as a colour; there is no metallic ink in LSINC's configurations.
- Decorating bottles before filling and crimping is the normal workflow; a trial at Sun Studio in Dubai on your own bottles comes before any purchase.
Round or flat: the first decision
A cylindrical printer turns the container on a spindle and prints in one continuous spiral, so the design wraps with no seam. A flatbed holds the container still in a jig and prints the face that looks up at the heads; a second face means a second pass. Choosing the wrong family is the costliest mistake in this category, because neither machine does the other's job well.
| Container | Machine family | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Round or gently tapered perfume bottles | LSINC PeriOne or PeriQ360 | Full 360° wraps; diameter 38 mm and up |
| Strongly tapered, shouldered or contoured bottles | LSINC Perivallo360m | Contour following up to ±30°; clear glass needs the clear-media upgrade |
| Slim vials, roll-ons, lipstick cases, rigid tubes | LSINC Perivallo360m | Diameters from 20 mm; soft squeeze tubes are assessed individually |
| Cosmetic jars and round skincare bottles | LSINC PeriOne or PeriQ360 | Glass and plastics; plastics need adhesion testing |
| Flat-fronted, rectangular or faceted perfume bottles | UV flatbed | Printed face by face; see our UAE flatbed perfume case study |
| Aerosol and body spray cans | LSINC PeriQ360 or PeriOne | Covered on our can printing machines page |
For flat bottles, our case study on a UAE perfume manufacturer that moved its decoration onto UV flatbeds shows that route in production. For cans, see aerosol and body spray can printing machines. The rest of this page is about round containers.
Container geometry in fragrance and cosmetics
| Model | Diameter | Maximum item length | Taper | Loading |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PeriOne | 38 to 152 mm (1.5 to 6 in) | 457 mm (18 in) | +10° / −2° | Manual, one item |
| PeriQ360 | 38 to 114 mm (1.5 to 4.5 in) | 406 mm (16 in) | +10° / −2° | Semi-automatic, four items |
| Perivallo360m | 20 to 139 mm (0.75 to 5.5 in) | 406 mm (16 in) | ±30°, contour following | Manual, one item |
LSINC published figures for the item, not the printable area. The printable band on a bottle is confirmed with its fixture.
- Shoulders and necks. Perfume bottles are designed for the shelf, not for a spindle. The printable band usually stops where the shoulder turns faster than the machine's taper limit; the Perivallo360m reaches further onto a contoured shoulder than the other two.
- Heavy bases and thick walls. Luxury glass is often heavy and its base thick, which affects how the fixture holds the bottle, not whether it can be printed.
- Pumps, caps and collars. Bottles are normally printed before the pump is crimped and the cap fitted. Caps and collars are separate parts, assessed on their own.
- Filled bottles. Finished, filled stock can be printed in some cases, if the bottle is dry, at room temperature and the closure clears the fixture. Confirm it on your own filled bottle.
Alcohol, handling and the durability claims you can make
Eau de parfum is largely alcohol, and repeated contact with the product, plus wiping, is the hardest everyday test a printed perfume bottle meets. PRO TECHnology rates prints from the Peri Series made with the correct pretreatment or primer, ink set and full cure as alcohol resistant, scratch resistant and UV resistant. That rating is a starting point for a new bottle, not a guarantee: glass chemistry, coatings and fragrance formulations differ, so every new bottle is qualified with the customer's own fragrance.
- Rub test with your fragrance on the cured print, the test that matters most for perfume.
- Drip and spill test, leaving fragrance on the print for a set time before wiping.
- Cross-cut tape adhesion test on the bottle as it arrives from your glass supplier, coated or uncoated.
- Abrasion in the carton and in transit, because packing lines and shipping scuff decoration.
- Your own stability tests, such as storage at the temperatures your products see.
Sun Studio runs the rub test with the customer's own product on every new fragrance bottle it prints; its article on whether a printed bottle survives the dishwasher or the perfume explains what each test does to a print. Adhesion tests are described in our adhesion best-practice guide.
Plastics and coated containers in skincare and cosmetics
Skincare and cosmetic packaging is often PET, PP or HDPE, and those plastics have low surface energy, so UV ink does not bond to them reliably without help. LSINC lists pretreatment as dependent upon substrate on every model, and its 2024 sheets list a jettable primer for the PeriOne and PeriQ360, subject to the customer application. Where a surface needs conditioning before printing, PRO TECHnology also supplies MODICO surface pre-treatment. Coated, metallised and soft-touch finishes are qualified finish by finish.
Soft squeeze tubes deform in use, so the print band is planned around how the tube is held and squeezed; rigid tubes and airless bottles behave more like bottles. Every plastic container is tested before a design is approved.
Finishes: white on clear glass, tactile effects and metallic looks
- Clear glass. The PeriOne and PeriQ360 print clear glass with no physical barrier behind it, which LSINC calls Barrier-Free Printing on Clear Media; on the Perivallo360m it is an upgrade. Barrier-free describes the machine, not the ink: white is still printed under the colour wherever the design must be opaque, and left out where you want the juice to show through.
- Tactile effects and faux embossing. Ink built up in layers gives a raised logo or texture you can feel. LSINC lists tactile effects and faux embossing on the PeriOne and PeriQ360, and tactile effects on the Perivallo360m. The glass itself is not embossed.
- Gloss and matte. Available where the ink configuration includes a varnish channel, confirmed when the machine is specified.
- Gold and silver. Printed as colours. None of LSINC's listed ink configurations includes a metallic ink, so a true metallic or foil finish needs a different process.
- Personalisation. Each bottle can carry its own name or design, and the PeriQ360 lists variable-data caching for personalised production.

Workflow in a fragrance or cosmetics plant
Most plants decorate empty bottles before filling and crimping, and hold printed bottles as stock for the filling line. The printers are stand-alone and operator-loaded, so decoration runs at its own pace rather than in series with the filler.
- Launches and sampling. Print the real artwork on the real bottle for approval before committing to a run.
- Limited editions and gift sets. Seasonal, Ramadan, Eid and National Day editions in the quantities each market needs.
- Many SKUs. Each bottle shape needs a fixture and a stored recipe; changeovers are planned, not improvised.
- Personalised bottles. A name or message per bottle, from the same file workflow.
Digital printing removes plates and screens, but it does not make one bottle cost the same as a thousand: artwork preparation, fixtures, set-up, test prints and loading are real costs that fall per piece as the run grows. The full cost lines to model before buying are set out in the cost-of-ownership framework in our beverage manufacturing guide, and apply equally here.
What has been printed, and by whom
- LSINC lists cosmetic packaging among the applications of all three Peri Series cylindrical models, and the demonstration bottles at the top of this page carry its logo.
- Sun Studio, the group's printing studio in Al Quoz, Dubai, prints round perfume bottles on its PeriOne and PeriQ360 as a service; the bottles shown above are its samples. It has also printed aluminium body spray cans for fragrance brands in the UAE on the PeriQ360, described in our PeriQ360 production line case study, and flat bottles on its UV flatbeds, such as a run of 1,000 flat mini perfume bottles.
- A UAE perfume manufacturer works with PRO TECHnology on Direct Color Systems UV flatbeds and decorates its bottles in-house; that is the flatbed route, described in our flatbed case study.
What has not been published is a fragrance or cosmetics manufacturer in this region running its own LSINC printer. Your own trial is the evidence that decides the purchase.
Choosing a model
| If your production looks like this | The machine that usually fits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Launches, samples, limited editions, larger bottles up to 152 mm | PeriOne | One bottle at a time by hand, the largest object window; rated at up to 282 pieces an hour at a 4 inch artwork height |
| Volume production of round bottles and jars from 38 to 114 mm | PeriQ360 | Four items per cycle, loading while the previous set prints, G7 colour calibration between tunnels, variable data; rated at up to 1,146 an hour at a 4 inch artwork height |
| Slim, tapered or contoured containers from 20 mm | Perivallo360m | Contour-following heads up to ±30°; rated at up to 174 an hour; clear glass needs the upgrade |
| Flat-fronted or faceted bottles | UV flatbed | Printed face by face; see the Direct Color Systems range |
Rated speeds are LSINC's maximums at a 4 inch (101.6 mm) artwork height and depend on image height, resolution and mode. White under colour, varnish and tactile layers add passes; measure your own artwork at the trial.
Specifications in full are in our LSINC buying guide, and an overview of everything the machines print is in our LSINC applications guide. Candle manufacturers have their own page on candle jar printing machines.
Request a perfume or cosmetic bottle print trial
Tell us about the bottle, jar or tube, the finish and the volume. Round containers are trialled on the PeriOne or PeriQ360 at Sun Studio, Dubai; slim or contoured containers for the Perivallo360m are assessed with LSINC, and flat-fronted bottles on a flatbed. The Digital Printing team replies by email, usually within one working day.
Frequently asked questions
What machine prints directly on perfume bottles?
It depends on the bottle. Round and tapered perfume bottles are printed all round on a cylindrical UV printer such as the LSINC PeriOne, PeriQ360 or Perivallo360m. Flat-fronted, rectangular and faceted bottles are printed face by face on a UV flatbed.
Which LSINC model suits a perfume manufacturer?
The PeriOne suits launches, samples and limited editions; the PeriQ360 suits volume production of round bottles between 38 and 114 mm, four at a time; the Perivallo360m suits slim, tapered and contoured bottles from 20 mm, up to ±30 degrees of taper.
Is the print on a perfume bottle alcohol resistant?
PRO TECHnology rates prints made with the correct pretreatment or primer, ink set and full cure as alcohol resistant. Because glass, coatings and fragrances differ, every new bottle is rub-tested with the customer's own fragrance after full cure before a production run.
Can small cosmetic containers such as roll-ons and lipstick cases be printed?
Containers below 38 mm in diameter are outside the PeriOne and PeriQ360 range. The Perivallo360m accepts items from 20 mm, so slim vials, roll-ons and rigid tubes are assessed on that model.
Can plastic cosmetic packaging be printed?
Yes, after adhesion testing. PET, PP and HDPE have low surface energy, so they usually need a jettable primer, listed for the PeriOne and PeriQ360, or a surface pretreatment before printing. Each plastic and finish is qualified before a design is approved.
Does clear glass need a white base?
Where the design must be opaque, yes. The PeriOne and PeriQ360 print clear glass without a physical barrier behind it, but white ink is still printed under the colour wherever the artwork must hide the contents or read true, and left out where the juice should show.
Can the print be metallic gold?
Gold and silver are printed as colours. None of LSINC's listed ink configurations includes a metallic ink, so a true metallic or foil finish needs a different decoration process.
Should bottles be printed before or after filling?
Normally before filling and crimping, with printed bottles held as stock for the filling line. Filled bottles can be printed in some cases if they are dry, at room temperature and the closure clears the fixture; confirm it on your own bottle.
Can we see our own bottle printed before buying?
Yes. Send your bottles and artwork to PRO TECHnology; round containers are printed on a PeriOne or PeriQ360 at Sun Studio in Al Quoz, Dubai, so you can test adhesion, alcohol resistance and colour on the real bottle before deciding.

Send the bottle before you choose the machine
A printed sample of your own bottle answers what a specification sheet cannot: which machine family it needs, how the print survives your fragrance, and how fast your artwork prints.
