How we selected these UAE UV printing companies

There is no shortage of companies in the UAE that will put a logo on a phone case or a plaque. This guide is narrower: print houses whose UV work is an industrial capability rather than a sideline, judged on eight criteria:

• Industrial UV and direct-printing capability, not spot-UV varnish on paper or printed vinyl applied afterwards.
• Substrates handled directly: glass, acrylic, metal, ACP, wood, ceramic, stone, bottles and other objects.
• Type and scale of equipment: flatbed, cylindrical or direct-to-object, continuous belt, wall printing, and the print area each gives.
• Breadth of applications, from a single perfume bottle to a full sign schedule.
• Commercial production experience and consistent repeat work.
• Publicly documented UAE projects that can be checked, not a logo wall.
• Suitability for specialist work rather than general paper or offset printing.
• Difficult substrates and applications: raised and tactile print, white ink on clear or dark material, curved objects, and surfaces that need pre-treatment.

We did not rank on price, because none of these companies publishes a price list and the object decides the cost, and we did not rely on reviews. Nor is there one universal best: the right company for a thousand perfume bottles is the wrong one for a hospital signage schedule. Where a company does not publish the equipment it runs, we say so and attribute the detail to PRO TECHnology's installation records.

What is UV printing?

UV printing uses inks that cure the moment ultraviolet light reaches them, so the image is fixed on the surface it lands on rather than absorbed into it. That is what lets it print directly onto glass, acrylic, metal, wood, stone, ceramics, coated boards and many plastics, and it is the difference from the older route of printing a vinyl or film and applying it afterwards: no film edge to lift, no laminate to peel, and white, clear and layered inks for opacity on clear or dark material, gloss or matte effects and raised texture.

Three machine formats do most of the work. A flatbed holds a rigid sheet or object on a bed under the printhead. A cylindrical or direct-to-object printer rotates a bottle, can or tumbler against the head so the artwork wraps 360° with no seam. A continuous-belt printer carries the material through on a conveyor, so length is limited by the panel or roll rather than by a fixed bed. 1. Sun Studio Dubai: the widest direct-printing capability under one roof

Sun Studio LLC is a specialist direct-printing studio at Warehouse 7, Al Quoz 1, Dubai, printing since 2011 and part of the same Dubai group as PRO TECHnology. It prints onto the surface or the object itself, glass, acrylic, wood and MDF, metal and ACP, ceramic, stone, leather, textile, bottles and walls, rather than producing conventional printed media, and it appears first here for one reason: the breadth of direct-printing formats available from a single studio, not any claim to be the largest or the cheapest.

Four production technologies sit on the floor. Two Direct Color Systems flatbeds, made in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, a UV84 with a 4 × 8 ft bed that DCS rounds to 250 × 130 cm and a UV44 with a 4 × 4 ft bed, print colour, white and clear together, including DCS's patented TEXTUR3D raised printing and printed-in-place Braille. An IQDEMY EVO 2500 continuous-belt UV printer, engineered in Sierre, Switzerland, takes media up to 2.5 m wide for wood, MDF, ACP, signage and display panels; the material travels on a belt rather than sitting on a fixed bed, so there is no fixed limit on print length. Two LSINC cylindrical printers, also US-built, the single-spindle PeriOne and the quad-spindle PeriQ360, turn bottles, cans and tumblers against the printhead for a seamless 360° wrap, and a wallPen E2 prints directly onto finished walls on site. MODICO ModiTreat pre-treatment and adhesion promoters are applied in-house where a substrate calls for them, and unfamiliar materials are tested before a run.

The portfolio shows the range. Fragrance: 1,450 flat perfume bottles for Qatarat Al Ward and 1,250 flat square bottles for an Egyptian World Cup edition, both printed direct with no label, while cylindrical bottles and aerosol cans run on the LSINC printers. Glass: the printed interior glass features for McDonald's at The Dubai Mall and outdoor printed glass for Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi. Signage: bilingual wayfinding boards with raised Braille for Dubai Municipality parks and offices, and the Museum of the Future's wayfinding panels with a 3 mm embossed tactile finish. Metal and ACP: 5,000 aluminium VIP badges for Ohana Development's Yas Island launch, aluminium display panels for Sharjah Heritage Museum, and a botanical artwork across the ACP elevation of an Accor office. And at the unusual end, direct printing onto solid gold and silver pieces for Phoenix Minting, and an Etihad Rail model base on acrylic with the terrain built up in relief.

The working method matters as much as the machines. A sample is printed on the customer's actual item before a run is committed, there is no minimum order because there is no screen or plate to pay for, and short runs are normal. Customers usually supply the bottles, panels or objects; where they would rather not, Sun Studio can source panels and items to a schedule. White ink, gloss or matte varnish over selected areas, and raised or textured effects are standard options.

Best suited for: fragrance and cosmetics brands, interior designers and fit-out contractors specifying printed glass, acrylic or ACP, corporate gifting, signage companies subcontracting Braille and tactile panels, and anyone who needs one sample or a difficult substrate handled properly. It is not a general commercial printer: paper, vinyl and banner work are not what it does. 2. Joseph Graphics: large-format production and branded environments

Joseph Graphics is the large-format printing company of Joseph Group, a Dubai signage manufacturer established in 1978 and headquartered in Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1. The distinction matters, because the big numbers belong to the group: Joseph Group states a production facility of 850,000 square feet and more than 1,800 people across ten companies, including separate businesses for decorative glass, traffic signs and industrial fabrication, and describes itself as the largest signage manufacturer in the Middle East. Joseph Graphics itself describes its work as high-quality, vibrant and durable printed graphics, and photo-realistic graphics for almost any substrate, indoor or outdoor.

Its service list covers fabric prints, illuminated graphics, wall coverings, building branding, hoarding wraps, vehicle graphics and event branding, printed and finished in-house, and, the reason it belongs here, direct printing on rigid substrates: Forex sheet, acrylic, ACM (aluminium composite), glass, metal and wood for signage, displays and promotional work. Its equipment page describes the fleet as running from super-wide applications to UV-curable inkjet without naming machines. According to PRO TECHnology's installation records, Joseph Graphics operates an IQDEMY EVO 2500 continuous-belt UV printer supplied through PRO TECHnology. The EVO 2500 is a hybrid conveyor-fed machine from IQDEMY, based in Sierre, Switzerland, with a 2.5 m media width and no fixed limit on print length, because the panel or roll travels on a belt rather than sitting on a bed. Joseph Graphics does not state this publicly, so treat it as our record rather than an independent source.

The public project record is transport, event and institutional branding at a scale few UAE print houses attempt: for Dubai Airports it wrapped the air traffic control tower, 47 m by 24 m, to promote the airport's Expo 2020 partnership; it wrapped Dubai Metro trains for the launch of the Museum of the Future and produced illuminated light-box graphics for the museum itself; and at Expo 2020 it worked with the Opportunity Pavilion and ALEC Fitout on a printed canopy and walls made with recycled materials. Joseph Group's wider client list adds the RTA, Ferrari World, Dubai World Trade Centre and KAUST in Saudi Arabia.

Best suited for: branded environments, retail and hospitality roll-outs, exhibition and event graphics, building and hoarding wraps, and large rigid panels where volume, scale and finishing under one roof matter more than printing on an unusual object. For a single bottle, a precious-metal piece or a stone slab, Sun Studio is the better call.

3. RIZQ Group (Al Rizq Advertising): signage, wayfinding and accessible environments

RIZQ Group describes itself as a design-and-build signage and wayfinding specialist supporting complex developments across the UAE. Many buyers still know it as Al Rizq Advertising, a name that remains on its blog, social channels and directory listings; the website is operated under the AL RIZQ name. It works from Warehouse 10–11, Damascus Street in Dubai and from Mussafah in Abu Dhabi, with production units in both cities equipped for printing and fabrication across signage materials.

Its solutions run from design-and-build signage and wayfinding systems to digital signage and what it calls inclusive navigation and accessibility: tactile signage combining raised characters, pictograms and Grade 2 Braille, evaluated by members of the visually impaired community. UV flatbed printing is offered as a service in its own right, and RIZQ states that its tactile and Braille signage is manufactured using ADA-compliant DCS technology, without naming the model. According to PRO TECHnology's installation records, the machine is a Direct Color Systems UV44 flatbed: a 4 × 4 ft bed, 130 × 130 cm in DCS's figures, that accepts substrates up to 30 cm thick and prints raised characters and Braille domes in the same pass as the sign graphics, so a bilingual plate is a file rather than a tooling job.

The documented projects set it apart. Dubai Municipality selected it to design and implement a coastal wayfinding system along Jumeirah Beach; for Dubai Health it delivered internal signage with sign coding for more than 15,000 elements, flatbed-printed acrylic signage and Braille integration; and it produced bilingual illuminated signs for Al Qassimi Women's and Children's Hospital, brand identity and wayfinding for Etihad Aviation Group in Abu Dhabi, wayfinding across the Al Shindagha heritage district, a 15-location Emirates Health Services roll-out completed in ten days, and wayfinding for Dubai Safari Park. It holds ISO 9001 certification and displays SEGD and Sign Design Society membership.

Best suited for: developers, government entities, healthcare and education operators that need a signage programme designed, fabricated, printed and installed under one contract, including tactile and Braille signs and digital wayfinding. Which UAE UV printing company should you choose?

Choose by the job, not by the name. The table pairs the most common requests with the company whose equipment and record fit them, and names a second option where one is reasonable.

What materials can UV printers print in the UAE?

All three companies print onto rigid materials; the differences are in the objects, sizes and preparation each handles. The surface decides the outcome, not the printer, which is why a sample on the actual material comes before any production run.

• Glass: printed flat after cutting and toughening, with white ink where colour must read on clear glass; exterior façade glazing belongs to fired ceramic frit instead. See Sun Studio's glass printing page.
