Comparing Wall Printing Machines in the Middle East: What to Check, and How wallPen Answers

The short answer

Compare the support as carefully as the machine. A vertical wall printer earns its money on client sites, so its value depends on how it follows the wall, its real printable height, its software and language, and who installs, trains and holds spare parts near you.

What should you compare when choosing a wall printing machine?

Compare who makes and supports the machine, how it follows the wall, its real height, its heads and software, the training, local parts and the written warranty. A wall printing machine, also called a vertical wall printer or direct-to-wall printer and sometimes a wall-printing robot, prints artwork straight onto a finished wall. Price is a fair starting point, not the whole answer

A lower price is a fair reason to consider a machine. The value, though, is decided on the day it prints inside a client's property, often with the client watching and the space due to reopen the next morning.

Eight checks for any vertical wall printer on a client's site

• Maker and local seller: who makes it, and whether the seller is the maker or its authorised regional distributor.
• Stance and sensing: what holds it up, the floor space it needs, and how it measures the wall.
• Real height and margins: the printable height after the margins it cannot reach.
• Heads, colours and white: the head model, one head per colour or shared, and white for dark walls.
• Software: where the controls are, how clear the steps are, and which languages are built in.
• Installation and training: who installs, where training happens, for how many and in which language.
• Engineers, parts and ink in your region: where the nearest engineer and spare heads are.
• Written warranty: the length, the exclusions and who honours it locally.

A ninth check applies to all of them: a timed test print on a wall like yours, in the quality mode you will sell, including small text.

How does wallPen keep wall printing simple, effective and efficient?

The wallPen E2 keeps set-up short, follows the wall as it prints and makes the time on site predictable.

Simple: one person, six bags, one tablet

wallPen says one person can have the E2 ready to use in under 30 minutes. The six bags, the heaviest about 22 kg, are carried in by hand, the machine plugs into an ordinary household socket, and the operator runs the job wirelessly from a tablet, in an app whose steps follow the order of the work. There is less to organise on arrival, and less for a new operator to learn.

Effective: a laser that follows the wall, and colour you can predict

A laser sensor measures the distance to the wall as the machine prints, and the head follows irregularities of up to about 10 cm. ICC colour profiles, including an E2 600 x 720 profile and FOGRA39, keep colour predictable. White, an optional fifth head, lays a light base on dark and coloured walls. wallPen gives indoor colour stability of up to 12 years, depending on surface, location and wear.

Efficient: less time on site, fewer surprises

wallPen OS v3 added Skip & Shrink swath, which skips empty pixels to shorten print time, and the app estimates print time, so the day on site can be planned. Each colour has its own Ricoh GH2220 head, and wallPen says a failed channel means replacing only that head. Ink use is about 5 to 10 ml per square metre.

None of this replaces training, surface preparation or supervision. An operator stays with every print.

Is the wallPen software easy to use in your own language?

Yes, in the version we checked: wallPen app 1.0.62 (September 2026) offers 14 display languages, Arabic and English included, and in any of them it is simple to operate from a tablet, wherever the job is in the region.

Fourteen display languages, Arabic included

In wallPen app 1.0.62 for macOS, checked on 23 September 2026, the display-language setting offers Arabic, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Czech, Japanese, Korean and Hebrew, and formats numbers and dates for the chosen language. Gulf crews are multilingual, and an operator who reads the screens in a language they know well is likely to learn faster and make fewer set-up mistakes, so check that your crew's languages are on the list. The manual is in English, a PDF of more than 200 pages.

Practise before the machine arrives: simulation mode

wallPen's App Store listing says every function can also be evaluated without a wallPen E2 connected. In simulation mode, operators control a virtual wallPen, load artwork and run a print with no machine present, and an in-app tutorial covers the basic functions.

Controls in the operator's hand, not on the machine

An Android tablet is supplied, and the app runs on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android (app.wallpen.com). It connects over Wi-Fi in the same room, so the operator can stand back, see the whole wall and keep the controls in hand.

What else the app handles

The app also estimates print time, applies ICC colour profiles and updates the printer over the air; recent releases add in-app diagnostics, laser-sensor calibration and easier log sharing, according to the App Store notes.

Who installs, trains and supplies parts for wallPen in the Middle East?

PRO TECHnology does. PRO TECHnology is the exclusive distributor of wallPen in the Middle East, with its own team of engineers, local support, spare parts held locally, installation and operator training.

wallPen's own partner map lists PRO TECHnology, in Business Bay, Dubai, as its only partner in any Middle East country. wallPen's FAQ tells owners to contact their local wallPen partner, or wallPen in Germany, for support and spare parts; in the Middle East, that local partner is PRO TECHnology.

Engineers and installation

PRO TECHnology's own team of engineers installs the wallPen wall printing machine and supports it locally, so buyers deal with one supplier in the region from demonstration to service.

Training and certification

Training comes in two parts. wallPen includes two days of individual training and certification for two people, at its facility in Wissen, Germany, or online, or on site for an extra fee. Separately, PRO TECHnology's engineers install the machine and train your operators locally.

Spare parts held locally

Spare parts are held locally, not only at the factory. wallPen says most parts ship from stock but custom accessories such as axis extensions can take up to 30 business days, so order the vertical-axis set you need with the machine.

wallPen in Saudi Arabia and the rest of the GCC

wallPen is available locally throughout the region, supplied and supported from Dubai across the GCC (the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain) and the wider Middle East. In Saudi Arabia, PRO TECHnology's Saudi company PRONEXT in Riyadh gives Saudi customers in-Kingdom demonstrations, installation, training, spare parts and Arabic-speaking support, with Dubai engineering behind it.

Why local support matters on a client's wall

A fault on a client's wall usually comes with an opening deadline. Support in your time zone and language, parts within reach and an engineer who can travel change what happens next, so ask any supplier who that engineer is and where the parts are, then book a demonstration.

wallPen vs Chinese wall printers: what are the fair points to check?

Makers differ widely, in China as everywhere else, so compare any wallPen alternative, machine by machine. Some Chinese makers publish specifications that match or exceed the wallPen on paper, such as heights of 4 metres or more and CE marking, and many of their machines cost less to buy. This is a checklist from makers' published pages, not a test or a ranking.

Check the name and maker

Some marketplace listings use “Wallpen” as a generic word for any wall printer. wallPen GmbH states in its FAQ that it has nothing to do with the so-called “Chinese Wallpen”. An original wallPen E2 comes from wallPen GmbH of Wissen, Germany, and in the Middle East through PRO TECHnology.

Four differences to test

• Support location. The Chinese makers' support pages we sampled describe mostly remote help from China (WhatsApp, WeChat, video calls, remote desktop), with parts sent by courier and on-site visits often charged separately; some use regional distributors. For wallPen, PRO TECHnology's engineers and spare parts are local. Ask where the nearest engineer and spare heads are.
• Software language. Several Chinese spec sheets we sampled list English and Chinese, with other languages translated on request; none of those sampled lists Arabic as standard. The wallPen app version we checked offers 14 display languages, Arabic included. Check any interface with your operators.
• Sensing and heads. Many Chinese machines use ultrasonic or infrared sensing and Epson heads; wallPen uses a laser sensor and Ricoh GH2220 heads, one per colour. Test the difference on your walls.
• Warranty and delivery. Among the Chinese makers we sampled, 12 months is common, some offer 24 and one extends to 36, often excluding printheads and ink; one vendor quotes 30 to 50 days door to door by sea. Ask every supplier, including us, for written terms and a delivery date.

What some comparisons get wrong

Some other makers' comparison pages say the wallPen cannot print white, has no wheels or reaches a lower height. wallPen's own pages say otherwise: white is an optional fifth head, launched in August 2023; the machine rolls on a wheeled platform with a steerable axle; and wallPen's FAQ gives the maximum print height as 4 metres. wallPen says its app and updates are included; its app listing adds that some features may need a service contract.

Then ask every supplier what the package covers, which sensor and heads are fitted (one per colour or shared), where the ink is made and stocked, and for a copy of the CE Declaration of Conformity.

What did a wallPen operator in Dubai find? Sun Studio's first-hand account

Sun Studio is a sister company in the same Dubai group as PRO TECHnology. It owns and runs a wallPen E2, configured with white, for paying clients, so its account is first-hand but not an independent review.

Its starting point is that wall printing happens inside someone else's property, often with the client watching. As Sun Studio puts it, “A wall gives us no rehearsal on the day.” What decided it: protected bags that make unpacking a routine; a separate tablet, so the operator stands back and watches the whole wall; software clear enough to teach colleagues; a laser that reads the wall; settings chosen for the job, including small Arabic text at a UAE heritage site; white for dark walls; and known margins, with the discipline to say no when a wall does not suit.

What are the limits of a wall printing machine?

The wallPen E2's main limits are its margins, a 4-metre maximum that needs the optional extension set, texture no deeper than about 10 mm, and the need for floor space and an operator. The machine figures are wallPen's; the space, supervision and environment points are our own site advice.

• Margins: about 25 cm at the top and bottom, 6 cm on the left and 10 cm on the right.
• Height: up to 4 metres with the optional extension set (the standard axis covers 1.7 to 2.4 metres), so check the quotation; the app warns that a total height above 4 metres is not covered by the warranty.
• Surface: the laser follows irregularities of up to about 10 cm, but texture deeper than about 10 mm, such as deeply raked brick, may not suit, so curved and textured walls are assessed on site.
• Space and supervision: the machine needs clear floor space along the wall, and an operator stays with the print.
• Outdoors: about 2 years, often more than 5 with a UV protective clear coat.
• Environment: ventilate occupied rooms while printing; see the ink safety FAQ on our wallPen E2 page.
• Warranty conditions: wallPen states that third-party ink voids the warranty.

How do you test a wall printing machine before you buy?

Watch it print on a wall like yours, time it in the quality mode you will sell, and put the whole package in writing.

• See it print: book a demonstration in Dubai, or ask PRONEXT about an in-Kingdom demonstration in Saudi Arabia.
• Bring photographs of the walls you expect to print, and your artwork at final size.
• Ask for a timed test print in the quality mode you will sell, including small text.
• Ask your operators to try the app in simulation mode, in a language they read well.
• Ask the Digital Printing team for a written quotation that lists the vertical-axis set, the white head, ink, training (where and in which language), the warranty length and exclusions, and which spare parts are held locally.
