Do you actually need Thunderbolt 5?

This is the question worth pausing on, because the honest answer is: only if your computer has it.

Thunderbolt 5 is the current generation of the Thunderbolt connection standard, and it carries considerably more data per second than Thunderbolt 4. A drive can only run at Thunderbolt 5 speed if the computer it is plugged into has a Thunderbolt 5 port.
