PRO TECHnology and Disk Archive Corporation: Enterprise Archiving for the Middle East
PRO TECHnology has partnered with Disk Archive Corporation, the UK specialist in enterprise data archiving, to bring the ALTO platform to the Middle East. The partnership answers a fast-growing regional need: preserving decades of media, government and enterprise data securely, affordably and quickly accessible, without the compromises of tape libraries or the cost curve of long-term cloud storage.
The ALTO approach to long-term storage
ALTO, short for Alternative to LTO, keeps archives on high-capacity disks that spin only when their content is requested. Disk Archive’s own figures describe the design:
- Files back after a disk spin-up of about 30 to 60 seconds
- Idle disks switched off, at 0.25 W per terabyte for cold storage
- Disk life of up to 15 years, with file integrity checking utilities
- Two or three copies of every file, with an optional set of disks removed to a vault as an offline copy
- A predictable, one-time cost model versus per-GB-forever cloud fees
