Kanguru Hardware Encrypted Storage, Remote Management and Duplicators in the UAE

Why hardware encryption beats software encryption

Hardware encryption is carried out by a dedicated engine inside the drive, so the keys stay on the device and security does not depend on the state of the host PC. Every Kanguru Defender secure USB flash drive is password protected with AES 256-bit hardware encryption, and all Defender encrypted USB drives are remote management ready. Software encryption, by contrast, inherits whatever weaknesses exist on the machine running it.

Kanguru Defender hardware encrypted USB flash drive

AES 256-bit hardware encryption

All Kanguru Defender secure USB flash drives are password protected with AES 256-bit encryption carried out on the drive itself.

Kanguru Defender drive with onboard Bitdefender anti-virus protection

Optional onboard anti-virus

Defender drives can be additionally protected with onboard anti-virus by Bitdefender, putting malware protection on the drive rather than only on the host.

Secure firmware protection against badUSB attacks on Kanguru Defender drives

Signed firmware stops badUSB

All Defender USB drives are fully protected from badUSB with digitally signed RSA-2048 secure firmware, so altered firmware is rejected.

FIPS 140-2 certified Kanguru Defender encrypted USB drive

FIPS certified models

The Defender range includes models with FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification, giving procurement teams a recognised standard to specify against.

Remote management and remote disable for lost drives

A lost encrypted drive only becomes an incident if you cannot act on it. The Kanguru Remote Management Console lets administrators keep track of hardware encrypted USB devices anywhere in the world and enable or even disable lost or stolen drives. KRMC itself stores no sensitive data, which is secured solely within the confines of the hardware encrypted devices themselves.

KRMC Hosted and On-Premise deployment options for Kanguru remote management

Hosted or on-premise

KRMC-Hosted runs on Kanguru's highly secure servers, while KRMC On-Premise runs on your own servers with ADVANCED and PREMIUM tiers.

Kanguru Local Administrator configuring multiple secure flash drives

Kanguru Local Administrator

KLA configures security and device features on select Kanguru flash drives before they are issued to employees, up to eight devices at a time.

Moving data between networks that stay separate

Where networks are deliberately kept apart, a hardware encrypted USB drive becomes the transfer medium and has to be trusted in both directions. The Defender Elite300 is designed for high data security organisations looking to meet the most demanding regulatory security standards, including government, healthcare and financial. Defender models with a physical write protect switch let the user move between read only and read/write modes to prevent files being overwritten.

Hardware encrypted USB drive used for secure data transfer between separated networks

Controlled transfer between sites

Data travels with its encryption and keys inside the device, so a drive in transit between offices or facilities is protected without host software.

Duplicators, secure erase and UAE procurement

Clients have trusted Kanguru as a duplicator manufacturer for over 25 years, and most KanguruClone units are stand-alone, so an IT team can clone, verify or wipe drives without tying up a computer. Secure erase covers drives being retired or reassigned, for meeting GDPR standards. PRO TECHnology supplies and supports the Kanguru line from Dubai across the UAE, the GCC and the wider Middle East.

Frequently asked questions

Is hardware encryption more secure than software encryption for USB drives?

For removable storage, yes. Hardware encryption is performed by a dedicated engine inside the drive, so the encryption keys stay within the device and protection does not depend on the security of the computer it is plugged into. Every Kanguru Defender secure USB flash drive is password protected with AES 256-bit hardware encryption, and all Defender encrypted USB drives are remote management ready.

Can a lost or stolen Kanguru drive be disabled remotely?

Yes. The Kanguru Remote Management Console (KRMC) lets administrators keep track of the whereabouts of their hardware encrypted USB devices anywhere in the world and enable or even disable lost or stolen encrypted USB drives if needed. All Kanguru Defender encrypted USB drives are remote management ready, and KRMC is available as a hosted edition on Kanguru's servers or as an on-premise edition on your own servers.

Does the Kanguru Remote Management Console store our data?

No. The Kanguru Remote Management Console stores no sensitive data. Data is secured solely within the confines of the hardware encrypted devices themselves, while KRMC manages the security aspects of those devices, including monitoring, authorising permissions and restrictions, managing passwords, and enabling or disabling drives.

Which Kanguru drives are FIPS certified?

The Kanguru Defender range includes models with FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification, alongside options such as a physical write protect switch and remote management capabilities. The Kanguru Defender Elite300 carries FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certification together with AES 256-bit hardware encryption, tamper resistance, a physical write protect switch and Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliance.

What is badUSB and how does Kanguru protect against it?

badUSB is an attack in which a USB device's firmware is altered so the device behaves as something other than what it appears to be. All Kanguru Defender USB drives are fully protected from badUSB with digitally signed RSA-2048 secure firmware, so firmware that has been tampered with is rejected by the drive.

Can Kanguru duplicators securely erase drives?

Yes. Kanguru duplicators are suited to data wiping, erase and backups, including secure erase for meeting GDPR standards. The USB duplicators can copy, compare, verify and erase data across multiple USB devices, and most Kanguru duplicators are stand-alone units that do not need a computer to operate.
