There is no single glass printing machine. Flat glass, from a splashback to a 2.5 metre partition, is printed on a UV flatbed or a belt-fed UV printer. Round glass, from a perfume bottle to a candle jar, is printed on a cylindrical UV printer that turns the item under the heads. ## Which machine prints on glass?

A **glass printing machine** is a UV inkjet printer that jets ink straight onto the glass and cures it with UV LED light as it lands, so the design sits on the surface with no label, film or transfer. Three families exist, and each one handles a different shape of glass. A **belt-fed UV printer** carries flat glass through the machine on a continuous belt, so a wall-sized panel prints as one image. A **UV flatbed printer** holds a sheet still on a table while the carriage prints over it. A **cylindrical UV printer** turns a bottle, jar or glass on a spindle while the heads print around it. Screen printing, ceramic (fired) decoration and sandblasting still exist for glass, but they need a screen, a kiln or a mask per design; this page is about digital UV machines, where a design change is a new file.

## Flat glass: panels, partitions, splashbacks and signage

Large flat glass is the job of a belt-fed machine. The **IQDEMY EVO 2500**, engineered in Sierre, Switzerland, moves the glass through the printer on a continuous belt instead of holding it on a fixed bed, so the width is limited to 2.5 metres and the length is limited only by the panel. It takes sheet material up to 200 mm thick on expandable side tables, prints with three to eight Ricoh Gen5 heads in any eight-colour combination, and runs at 32 to 62 square metres an hour at 508 x 1200 dpi. For glass and ceramic panels it is specified with the matching ink system, and in the group's own workflow the glass is pre-treated with [MODICO ModiTreat](https://www.protechnology.ae/modico-surface-pre-treatment-middle-east) before printing and coated with Marabu post-treatment coatings after it. Sheet glass that fits on a table is a flatbed job. The **Direct Color Systems** range prints directly on glass, acrylic, wood, metal and plastics on four bed sizes: the UV21 at 44 x 61 cm, the UV32 at 60 x 90 cm, the UV44 at 130 x 130 cm and the UV84 at 250 x 130 cm, with print heights from 18 to 32 cm. Two things set these flatbeds apart on glass: TEXTUR3D raised printing, where colour, white and clear are laid down together in one pass and the tonal value of the artwork sets the height of the relief, and ADA-compliant Braille, printed in the same job. ## Glass bottles, jars and drinkware: cylindrical UV printers

A bottle cannot lie flat, so it is printed on a **cylindrical UV printer**: the container is held on a spindle, turned under the inkjet heads and cured by LED lamps as the ink lands. LSINC's Peri Series prints helically, laying the image down as one continuous spiral while the item rotates, so the wrap has no seam. Rated speeds are LSINC's maximums at a 4-inch (101.6 mm) artwork height on a 50 mL reference bottle, and depend on image height, resolution and mode. ## Perfume glass: round or flat decides the machine

Fragrance glass is printed on both families. A round or tapered perfume bottle is a cylindrical job: the Perivallo360m takes diameters from 20 mm and follows contours to ±30°, the PeriOne and PeriQ360 take round bottles from 38 mm. The alcohol in a fragrance is the durability question that matters most on this glass: it is answered by a rub test with the customer's own product on the printed bottle, never assumed. ## Printing on clear glass: barrier-free printing and white ink

Clear glass is the hardest glass to print well, because the ink is seen against whatever is behind it. On a cylindrical printer the sensor and the heads have to work on a transparent item, which is why LSINC's PeriOne and PeriQ360 carry what LSINC calls Barrier-Free Printing on Clear Media: they print clear or coloured glass with no barrier placed inside the bottle, as a standard capability; on the Perivallo360m clear media is an upgrade that has to be specified. Barrier-free describes the machine, not the ink. Wherever the design needs opacity or accurate colour on transparent glass, a **white layer** is printed under the colour; where the design should let the glass show, the white is left out. LSINC's multi-layer printing also allows a design to be built so it reads from both sides of clear glass. Flatbeds work the same way: the DCS machines lay down colour, white and clear together, so a white under-layer, a full-colour image and a clear or raised finish print in one pass.

Tactile and textured finishes are a second reason to print glass digitally. The LSINC models print tactile effects and faux embossing by building up cured ink in layers; the DCS flatbeds print real relief with TEXTUR3D. On a bottle the relief can be felt under the fingers; on a panel it can be read as texture under light.

## Does UV ink stick to glass? Primer, plasma and the test that decides

Not always on its own. Glass gives the ink nothing to key into, so adhesion depends on the surface condition and the chemistry of the ink. Three routes exist. A **chemical primer**, such as Marabu Primer P4, deposits an adhesion-promoting layer between the glass and the ink; it can be applied offline (clean, prime, dry, then print and cure) or jetted on the LSINC models that carry a jettable primer channel. **Plasma** treatment cleans and activates the surface and changes its wettability without adding a layer; a plasma coating is a different process again, depositing a functional layer of roughly 8 to 20 nanometres. **Flame, Pyrosil and corona** treatment are the other established options, and MODICO ModiTreat is the pre-treatment the group uses on flat glass before the IQDEMY. None of them is mandatory for every glass, and stacking primer, plasma and coating without evidence that each is needed is a mistake. The deciding step is a **cross-hatch adhesion test** on your actual glass with your actual ink, after the ink has fully cured. ## How durable is UV printing on glass?

There is no single durability figure for printed glass, because the result depends on the glass, the pre-treatment, the ink recipe and what the item goes through afterwards. What the group can state is its own testing: Sun Studio's prints on glass bottles, drinking glasses, steel tumblers and porcelain qahwa cups lasted more than 60 dishwasher cycles in Sun Studio's own home and commercial dishwasher tests, described in its article on [dishwasher and alcohol resistance](https://www.sunstudio.ae/insights/dishwasher-and-alcohol-resistant-bottle-printing-dubai/). That is Sun Studio's result on its own recipe and items, not a rating for your glass, and LSINC publishes no durability claim of its own; it sells adhesion and abrasion testing as a service instead. For perfume glass the test is a rub test with the fragrance itself. For architectural glass, Marabu post-treatment coatings are applied after printing for UV and scratch resistance in the group's own workflow. Whatever the item, the trial sample is the thing to test: wash it, rub it, leave it in the sun, and decide on evidence.

## What does a glass printing machine cost?

Prices are quoted against a specification, not listed, and the specification is what moves the price. On a flatbed or belt printer it is the bed or belt width, the number and type of print heads, the colour channels (white and clear add passes and ink), the vacuum zones, the RIP and the pre-treatment unit. On a cylindrical printer it is the model, the feed system (manual on the PeriOne and Perivallo360m, semi-automatic on the PeriQ360), the ink configuration, the primer channel, and the fixtures: each container shape needs its own fixture, and LSINC quotes about four weeks to design, make and test one. Around every machine sit installation, operator training, ink, consumables, spare parts and service. ## Buy a glass printing machine, or have the glass printed in Dubai?

Both routes run through the same group. ## How a glass print trial runs

1. **Send the glass and the brief.** A sheet, a panel offcut, or empty or filled bottles, with the artwork, the finish you want (white under colour, clear glass left bare, tactile relief) and the quantities you plan.
2. **Surface and pre-treatment.** The glass is tested as it arrives from your supplier; primer, plasma or flame treatment is added only if the first adhesion test says so.
3. **Print.** Flat glass runs on the IQDEMY or a DCS flatbed; bottles, jars and glasses run on a PeriOne or PeriQ360 at Sun Studio, Dubai. A Perivallo360m application is assessed with LSINC.
4. **Test the sample.** Cross-hatch adhesion after full cure, then your own wash, rub, alcohol or weathering test, depending on where the glass will live.
5. **Capacity and quotation.** Net output, ink and primer use and operator time measured on your glass, then the model, configuration, fixtures, installation and training quoted.

The sample is the evidence. A specification sheet says what a machine can hold; only your own glass, printed and tested, says what it will do in your plant.

**What machine is used to print on glass?**

A UV inkjet printer that jets ink directly onto the glass and cures it with UV LED light. **Can one glass printing machine print both flat glass and bottles?**

Not well. A flatbed or belt printer needs a flat surface under the heads, and a cylindrical printer needs an item it can turn on a spindle. Workshops that print both, such as Sun Studio in Dubai, run both types of machine. Some flatbeds accept a rotary attachment for occasional round items, but it prints slowly and one piece at a time.

**Can you UV print on clear glass?**

Yes. LSINC's PeriOne and PeriQ360 print clear or coloured glass with no barrier placed behind it, which LSINC calls Barrier-Free Printing on Clear Media; on the Perivallo360m clear media is an available upgrade. White ink is still printed under the colour wherever the design needs opacity, and left out where the glass should stay clear. UV flatbeds print white, colour and clear on flat clear glass in the same way.

**Does glass need primer before UV printing?**

Sometimes. UV ink has nothing to key into on glass, so some glass and ink combinations need a chemical primer such as Marabu Primer P4, a plasma or flame treatment, or nothing at all. The only reliable answer is a cross-hatch adhesion test on your actual glass with your actual ink after it has cured, which is the first step of every PRO TECHnology trial.

**Which machine prints glass bottles?**

A cylindrical UV printer. LSINC's PeriOne takes items from 38 to 152 mm in diameter and up to 457 mm long and loads one piece by hand; the PeriQ360 takes 38 to 114 mm, carries four items at a time with semi-automatic loading and is the production model; the Perivallo360m takes 20 to 139 mm and follows contours and tapers to 30 degrees. **Is UV printing on glass permanent and dishwasher safe?**

It depends on the glass, the pre-treatment, the ink recipe and the use. Sun Studio's own tests on glass bottles and drinking glasses printed on its machines passed more than 60 dishwasher cycles, but that is Sun Studio's result on its own recipe, not a guarantee for every glass. LSINC publishes no durability rating. The printed trial sample is what you test: wash it, rub it with the product it will meet, and decide on evidence.

**How fast does a glass printing machine print?**

The IQDEMY EVO 2500 is rated at 32 to 62 square metres an hour at 508 x 1200 dpi. LSINC rates the PeriOne at up to 282 items an hour, the PeriQ360 at up to 1,146 and the Perivallo360m at up to 174, all at a 4-inch (101.6 mm) artwork height on a 50 mL reference bottle. Real output on glass is lower once white layers, tactile layers, loading and changeovers are counted, and is measured on your own glass during a trial.

الطباعة على الزجاج الشفاف ممكنة: طابعتا PeriOne وPeriQ360 تطبعان على الزجاج الشفاف أو الملوّن دون حاجز خلف الزجاجة، ويُطبع الحبر الأبيض تحت الألوان حيث يحتاج التصميم إلى تغطية معتمة ويُترك الزجاج شفافاً حيث لا يحتاج. أما الالتصاق فلا يُفترض: بعض أنواع الزجاج تحتاج إلى برايمر مثل Marabu Primer P4 أو معالجة بالبلازما أو اللهب، والفيصل هو اختبار الالتصاق الشبكي على زجاجك الفعلي بحبرك الفعلي بعد التصلّب.

المرجع الإقليمي للطباعة على زجاجات المياه الزجاجية هو شركة المشروبات النقية (Pure Beverages Industry Company) في السعودية، صاحبة علامتي أوسكا وإيفال والتابعة لمجموعة المراعي منذ 31 يوليو 2025، وتطبع زجاجاتها على طابعة PeriOne رُكّبت في 2024 وطابعة PeriQ360 أُضيفت في أبريل 2025. وفي دبي يشغّل صن ستوديو في القوز طابعات IQDEMY وDCS وLSINC يومياً كخدمة طباعة على الزجاج المسطح والزجاجات وزجاج العطور وأوعية الشموع.

PRO TECHnology هي الوكيل الحصري لطابعات LSINC في الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، والموزع الرسمي لأحبار Marabu في الشرق الأوسط، وتورّد طابعات IQDEMY وDirect Color Systems في الإمارات ودول الخليج. قبل أي شراء، أرسل زجاجك أو زجاجاتك مع التصميم وتُطبع العينة في صن ستوديو بدبي، ثم يُقاس الإنتاج الفعلي واستهلاك الحبر ويُحدّد الطراز والمواصفات على أساس النتيجة.

## Send the glass before you choose the machine

A printed sample of your own glass, with the adhesion result and a measured output figure, is the only specification that counts. Flat glass and round glass are both printed at Sun Studio, Dubai, before any quotation.
